WELLINGTON side Moortown made a winning start to the season in the first division of the Somerset Sunday Football League when they beat Mariners 3-2 away.
Moortown welcomed back Rohan Poulsom who has been away for two years and Cameron Perry-Jones following a long term injury.
Against the run of play Mariners took the lead after twenty minutes following some poor defending and broke away to lead 2-0. Time was running out in the first half when, following a clumsy challenge on Luke Perry, Moortown were awarded a penalty. James Conway stepped up and slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net. That concluded the action for the first half.
Moortown stormed out of the traps in the second half and were soon dominating the game.
Joey Conway was then introduced and quickly caused panic in the Mariners defence. With fifteen minutes left an outstanding cross from Perry was met with a powerful header from Joey Conway making it 2-2.
Moortown pushed for the winner and with four minutes left Ben Evett produced a volley from 10 yards to seal all three points for Moortown. Man of the Match: Rohan Poulsom. Main sponsor: Conway Cladding.
