WELLINGTON Under 15s lost their first home game in the Taunton & District Youth `League when they went down by four wickets to Taunton Deane Tigers.
George Corp batted aggressively for a well made 30 off 23 balls. Thomas Gendall followed and hit a solid 37 off 29. Fred Corp quickly hit eight off of five as Wellington were bowled out for 108.
A total of 109 was always going to be a tricky target to defend.. Wellington started off very well dismissing the openers for 0 and 2. Isla Hendy bowled consistently straight and well, picking up two wickets. Deane’s main batter was eventually dismissed by a great catch by Ben Briddon off the bowling of Bill Groves.
Ben Briddon bowled well with some great pace and consistently straight, picking up one wicket. However, after the two wickets Deane had gotten themselves so far ahead of the run rate, they only needed three an over off the last six overs.
Wellington battled hard, eventually conceding the final runs off the last ball of the 17th over. Another ten runs, or ten less extras, for Wellington could have made the game even tighter, but despite a spirited fielding performance, the result was a four-wicket loss.
