WELLINGTON U15s came up short when they took on Taunton Deane in the final of the Taunton Youth Cricket League Under 15 KO Cup held at Taunton St Andrews.
Batting proved difficult on a damp day against the county bowlers James Salt and Andrew Carnegie. Brock Vallance had only scored one when he was adjudged LBW, and then a mix up between skipper Oli Hutchings and Oscar Milton meant the latter was run out, meaning both openers were out with only eight scored.
The skipper was joined by Thomas Gendall and rebuilding began, but Hutchings had reached 15 when he was clean bowled by Finn Robbins, and once Gendall was run out chasing a second run, Deane were well on top. Archie Evans batted well, top scoring with 27, and tried to hold the tail together, but with no one else reaching double figures, Wellington were finally bowled out for a modest 80 half way through the 17th over.
George Davis snapped up a wicket with only 15 on the board, but with Salt and Salter for The Deane at the crease, the target was always in sight. Wellington bowled and fielded well, with Milton grabbing two wickets, but the total was passed half way through the 16th over.
