MARK Salter scored 101 but still finished on the losing side as Wellington 3rd XI went down by eight wickets away to Wembdon 4th XI in Division Six West of the Somerset Cricket League.
Salter, the Wellington club’s chairman, knocked 17 fours and two sixes and shared in a third-wicket stand of 157 with Des Campbell. The pair came together after Wellington had lost both openers for only seven runs. Wellington scored 207-4 in their 40 overs with Mark Syvret taking 2-27.
Wembdon were 55-2 when Mark Wardle and Roy Morrish came together and these two shared in an unbeaten third wicket stand of 156. Wardle hit 15 fours in his 78 not out while Morrish scored an unbeaten 70 which included eight fours and three sixes.
Victory enabled Wembdon to stay second in the table while Wellington slipped to seventh place after losing only their fourth game of the season.
Winscombe remain top of the table with a 47-point lead despite losing by 23 runs away to Taunton Indian, who scored 224-8 in their 40 overs and then restricted their opponents to 201 all out.
Wellington 3rd XI are home to Taunton 3rd XI at Sampford Arundel on Saturday, August 3 (1.30p.m.).
