WELLINGTON 2nd XI beat Spaxton by seven wickets at the Playing Field to stay well clear of the field in the third division of the Somerset Cricket League.

It was their tenth win in 11 matches and they have a 34-point lead at the top of the table over second-placed Middlezoy.

Spaxton, after winning the toss and deciding to bat first, scored 177-8 in their 40 overs with John Bishop scoring 51, Andrew Jeanes 40 and James Venton 33. Tom Hopkins took 2-25, Neil Hendy 2-22 and Alex Derbidge 2-40.

Aks Latifi steered Wellington to victory with a fine knock of 83 not out, which included seven fours and three sixes. Paul Short scored 30 not out, Andy Hurry 25 and Neil Hendy 21.

Middlezoy maintained their challenge for the title with a seven-wicket home win over Taunton Deane. The Deane made 178 all out in 40 overs and Middlezoy reached their target in 32 overs with James Lacey 58 not out and Taylor Flitton 39 not out.

Cheddar gained a big 121-run victory away to Street who were bowled out for 122 in answer to Cheddar's 243-5. Minehead beat North Perrott by five wickets.
