WELLINGTON 3rd XI were involved in a thrilling tie in a high-scoring game away to Taunton 3rd XI in Division 6 West of the Somerset League on Saturday.

Both teams scored 269 but Taunton collected three more points because they lost fewer wickets.

Batting first Taunton piled up the runs for the loss of six wickets with M Poornesh top scoring with a splendid 146, which included ten sixes and 14 fours. I Culverhouse was 25 not out.

Lewis Sparks finished with the best bowling figures for Wellington of 3-47.

Opener Trevor Brooks led the run chase for Wellington, scoring 78 with 56 of these coming in boundaries. Sparks scored 34, Darren Davis 31, Mark Salter 26 and Tyler Fyfe 22.

Wellington ended on 269 after their 40 overs with one wicket remaining. A Hiett took 3-39 and D Cowling 3-36.

Wellington, who are still unbeaten after playing five matches, are lying third in the table which is headed by Winscombe 2nd XI, with Wembdon 4th XI second. At the other end of the table, Taunton Deane are bottom and have yet to win a match.

Wellington are home on Saturday, June 8, to Winscombe who have a 37-point lead over their nearest rivals.
