WEST Somerset Cricket League side Stogumber Cricket Club are celebrating their 150th anniversary in 2025 and a number of events are planned to take place to mark this very special occasion.

Stogumber has a rich cricketing history and was the home club of the White family one of who JC (Jack) White played for Somerset between 1909 and 1937, captaining the team between 1927 and 31 before going onto become president in 1961.

In total, he played 409 first class matches for the club, claiming a record number of 2,165 wickets at an average of 18.03 with a best of 10 for 76

He took five wickets in an innings on no fewer than 185 occasions and claimed 10 wickets in a match 57 times.

He was no fool with the bat either, scoring six hundreds for the club and 41 half centuries with a best score of 192. He passed 1,000 runs in a season on two occasions.

Jack White also played in 15 Test Matches in which he took 49 wickets with a best of 8 for 126.

On Sunday 18th May, as part of their celebrations Stogumber, (TA4 3TQ), will be hosting a Past Players Day, when they will be welcoming former players and members back to the club.

The highlight of the day will be a match between the Club and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), a team with a rich history and a reputation for excellence. This will be an event of great interest to the local community, especially those with a passion for the sport.

On this special occasion, Stogumber CC will be serving lunch and afternoon cricket teas, and would love to see many past and present supporters in attendance.

On 30th May the Club will be hosting a Summer Party with music from a Wurzels tribute band and then on 24th August the much anticipated Gumbeerfest will be returning.

In addition to their existing sponsorship options, Stogumber are introducing a new pitch-side branding opportunity.

For £225 this year (and £100 in subsequent years if renewed), sponsors can have a 3m x 1m branded banner displayed at the ground, along with a social membership to the club.

This is a great way to enhance visibility while supporting this historic club.
