SOMERSET Cricket Club have signed Dutch one day international bowler Paul van Meekeren on a two-year contract.

The 23 year old, who has played in 15 IT20’s and two ODI’s for the Netherlands, signed on three month contract for the latter part of the 2016 season after impressing in Second XI cricket and made his debut against Pakistan before playing in both the T20 and Royal London One Day Cup.

Matt Maynard, the Somerset Director of Cricket said: “Paul is an exciting young bowling talent who we are delighted to have signed for Somerset. In the games that he has played for us he has shown that he offers something a little bit different and we look forward to having him here with us for at least the next two seasons.”

Van Meekeren will be training at Taunton prior to Christmas before reporting for international duties with Holland in Dubai at the start of 2017.

Batsman Adam Hose has signed an extension to his contract that will see him remain with Somerset at least until the end of the 2017 season

The 23 year old who, hails from Ventnor in the Isle of Wight, hit 77 in the Royal London One Day Cup against Essex and scored over 1700 runs in the Seconds during the summer said: “I am delighted to extent my contract with Somerset. It’s a very exciting club to be around at the moment and it gives me another opportunity to keep knocking on the door of regular first team cricket.

“Looking ahead, my goals for 2017 are pretty simple. Earn a regular spot within the top order, and consistently contribute towards winning games of cricket for Somerset. I’d love to play all formats but all of our batters had a top class season, so staying patient and grabbing the opportunity when it comes is key.”

Hose will be spending this winter playing Grade cricket in Australia for Kensington.
