CARHAMPTON entertained local rivals Roadwater in the second division of the West Somerset Cricket League, with the visitors coming away with a comfortable victory by 115 runs.
The hosts won the toss and decided to bowl first and utilise any moisture in the wicket. Despite an early breakthrough by opening bowler Matt Long, the home team were met with dogged resistance by firstly opener Keiran Roberts (27) and then Ross Cornish, who looked in good form and played the conditions excellently to finish with an impressive 87.
Cornish was caught off the bowling of captain Dom Westcott but solid striking from Joe Murch provided good late innings runs (38) to boost the total to 205 for four from the 40 overs.
In reply Carhampton’s innings never really got going as early wickets fell due to the pace and accuracy of opening bowler, Oliver Cole who claimed four for 14.
When Cole removed opener Luke Milton (31) this soon set about a flurry of wickets with only Paul Keal reaching double figures for the home team. Jack Foster with three for 10 then helped mop up the tail for the away team.
