WELLINGTON 2nd XI are setting the pace at the top of the third division in the Somerset Cricket League after beating Cheddar by 24 runs at the Playing Field on Saturday.
After winning the toss, Wellington chose to bat - and slumped to 40-4. But Rob Moysey, coming in at No 7, held the innings together with an unbeaten 49 as Wellington recovered to score 185 all out. Neil Hendy scored 18, Charlie Burrough 37 and club chairnam Mark Salter 16.
Cheddar's most successful bowlers were Max Marshman with 3-54, Jimmy Clark 3-23 and Liam Jones 2-39.
Cheddar made a steady start, scoring 34 before their first wicket fell. However, their batting went into freefall as they lost five wickets in adding 24 runs. They eventually finished on 161 off 40 overs.
Neil Hendy took 3-19 in eight overs, Oli Beale 2-34 and Ian Hewson 2-46.
Wellington have a 19-point lead at the top of the table, with Middlezoy lying second and Chard third.
Elsewhere, some other matches were affected by rain with Long Sutton's home match against North Perrott being cancelled.
Uphill Castle had scored 203 against Limpsham and Belvedere before rain ended play, while Winscombe had scored 144-4 when their game against Bridgwater was called off.
