WELLINGTON 2nd XI stay top of the third division in the Somerset Cricket League despite crashing to their first defeat of the season - by 119 runs away to title rivals South Petherton.
Petherton, however, are still 32 points behind Wellington who had won all eight of their previous games in the league this season.
After choosing to bat first, Petherton piled up 215-9 in their 40 overs with Ian Masters being their top batter with 61, scoring from only 38 balls. Alex Davy made 54 before being stumped by Aks Lalifa. The pair put on 94 runs for the fifth wicket.
Rob Moysey took 3-53, while Neil Hendy bowled tidily to take 2-19 in his eight overs, Alex Derbidge finished with figures of 2-49 and Tom Hopkins 1-17 from eight overs.
Wellington's batting never took off with opener Paul Short (7) being first out with the score on 15. At one stage Wellington were 29-4 with only Ben Evett (10) and Charlie Burrough (13) managing to get into double figures. Wellington were all out for 96 in 27.4 overs.
Petherton's bowling was spearheaded by Masters, who snapped up 3-25 in seven overs, Kevin Harris who took 3-22 in eight overs, and Joel Harris, 3-24 in his eight over spell.
