WELLINGTON will be chasing their third away victory of the season when they play Clevedon in the Bristol/Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League on Saturday, June 1.
Wellington have won two thrilling away games in the league - by six and ten runs - since being promoted as winners of the Somerset Division of the WELP, but have lost both matches on the Playing Field, although by only three runs against Midsomer Norton.
They will obviously be looking to improve on their batting display last weekend when they lost to Weston super Mare at home by seven wickets.
Only George Ruell (23), Jack Beale (22) and Callum Hendy (28) managed to make runs against Weston as they were bowled out for a miserly 119 in 34 overs.
Although Weston lost a wicket with only two runs scored, Jack Press (50) and Dexter Trego (48) shared in a second wicket stand of 91 and both lost their wickets with the visitors in sight of a comfortable victory.
Weston moved up to sixth in the table while Wellington slipped back to seventh, only one point behind the seasiders.
Downend are the current leaders of the division with 69 points from their opening four games, having won three and lost one of their four fixtures. Taunton Deane, who were relegated last summer, are bottom and have still to win a game.
Wellington's rivals on Saturday Clevedon are lying fourth, with two wins and two losses, and have collected only three more points than Arron Campbell's side. This would suggest Wellington being involved in another close encounter.
Wellington 2nd XI, leaders of Division Three in the Somerset League, have a top of the table clash at home to second-placed Middlezoy (1.30p.m.).
Wellington have opened the season with four wins from four matches, the latest being a 35-run away victory against Street, while Middlezoy trail Wellington by 16 points, having won three of their first four fixtures.
Wellington 3rd XI, lying third in Division Six West, are away to Taunton 3rd XI on Saturday. Wellington were 31-run home winners against Wembdon 4th XI in their last match while Taunton beat Ilton by 102 runs away.
There is a full programme of matches in the West Somerset League where Ashbrittle lead the first division and in the Taunton & District Youth League.
