WELLINGTON will be looking for back to back wins when they play Midsomer Norton in the Bristol/Somerset Division of the West of England Premier Cricket League at the Playing Field on Saturday (May 11, 12.00).

It will be their first home match since being promoted from the Somerset Division at the end of last season, having won the championship without losing a game.

Arron Campbell's boys, who have not played at this level before, began the season in style by gaining a exciting ten-run victory over Taunton Deane at the Convent Field.

It was a display full of character with the Deane looking the more likely side to win for much of the game. Put into bat, Wellington scored 216 all out with Jacob Hurry hitting a crucial 75 after Wellington had lost four wickets for only 27 runs.

Vice-captain Luke Desave also played a vital innings, scoring 54 to help Wellington over the 200-run mark. Their final score proved to be the highest in the division.

The Deane, who were relegated at the end of last summer, looked set for a comfortable win as they scored 80 without loss.

But Wellington showed the kind of character which won them so many matches last season. They kept taking wickets at regular intervals before the Deane suddenly realised they were in trouble and suffered two run outs as Wellington kept up the pressure.

The home side were eventually bowled out for 206, leaving Wellington winners by ten runs - and a haul of 20 points.

Wellington will go into Saturday's game with plenty of confidence because their opponents crashed by eight wickets to Downend on Saturday. They were bowled out for 98 - the lowest score of the day.

However the standard of cricket in this division is very high and there are no weak teams. Other fixtures in the division on Saturday are: Clevedon v Keynsham, Congresbury v Taunton Deane, Downend v Ilminster, Weston super Mare v Golden Hill.

Meanwhile, Wellington 2nd XI will also be aiming for their second victory of the season when they play away to Spaxton in Division Three of the Somerset League.

Wellington gained a 13-run victory over the Deane's third team at the Playing Field on Saturday, their score of 174 being the highest of the day.

Nathan Yarde scored 49 for Wellington while Tom Hopkins and veteran Robert Moysey both snapped up three wickets. Spaxton won at Street - also by three wickets - in a low scoring game which produced only 209 runs.

Wellington 3rd XI take to the field for the first time this season when they play at home to Weston in Division Six West.
