THE first day of the Afternoon Indoor League at Wellington Bowling Club brought together two teams who played a humdinger of a match to decide who would be the winners on the day.
Suzanne Worth, Paul Kelsall, Thelma Helps and skip Diana Dagg's Yzeds came up against Alan Mark, Carol Horrill, Steve Horrill and skip Darren Sparks' brand new team called The Hopefuls.
There's nothing like starting with a bang and Yzeds did that in some style by collecting five shots in the first, but Hopefuls scored four shots in the next.
Yzeds picked up one in the third end to lead 6 – 4 but Darren's ever Hopefuls overtook and by the 9th they were 11 – 6 up and looking very good for the win.
Then Diana Dagg's foursome came up trumps with a terrific five shots in the tenth end ….but with one end to play they were still a shot down and the score at 12 – 11 to the Hopefuls.
In the last end Yzeds were holding one shot when their skip Diana came to the mat and picked up the one shot needed to pinch victory on the line by 13 shots to 12.
