THERE were two home and away matches for Wellington against Ilminster in the Ladies' League. One was played at Wellington while the other was away to Ilminster.
In the home match, Tracey Richbell, Di Dagg, Shirley Samuel and skip Ann Cowling found they were in a real battle against a very strong Ilminster team but they started very well and after eight ends were leading 8–4.
The Ilminster trio then picked up their game and overtook to win it by just three shots, 15 – 12.
The away match in Ilminster was a hard fought battle as well. Catherine Bridger, June Anderson, Angie Moore and skip Christine Willcocks all bowled extremely well. The scores were very close all the way and after 17 ends and with just one to play, Ilminster were leading by three shots, 17 -14 and all seemed lost for the visitors.
But in the last end, Wellington ladies took a huge five shots to overtake and win 19 – 17 and gain an outstanding result against a strong home outfit.
Despite a terrific fight back Wellington ladies lost overall by just one shot. The final score was Ilminster 32, Wellington 31.
