FOUR teams from Wellington Bowling Club played away to the Mid Devon Club who have members from all over Devon. From the start they new they were in for a battle.

Just to add to everything, Wellington included several new bowlers in a bid for them to experience match-play.

Despite all this, Jacqueline Finney, Tony Weston and skip Clive Manning won on their rink by 14 shots to 11.

Pat Bridger, Phil Hutchings and skip Ian Hollingsworth also came close. They were level on 14 all with one to play but the Devon trio took the winning shot with the very last bowl for a 15 – 14 victory.

Jane Hayes, Phil Wiggan and skip David Bridger put up a good fight but went down 23 - 5 while Alan Mark, Peter White and skip Lynda Manning tried hard but lost out 34 – 6.

However, it was a pleasant and friendly game which was enjoyed by everyone.
