THREE teams from Wellington set off to play Wyrall Park Bowling Club in Glastonbury in the Somerset County Men's Bowls League, South West 1 - and they came away with a splendid victory.
Wellington's A are currently doing well in the league but they knew they would run up against strong opposition from Glastonbury.
Sure enough, Darren Sparks, Henry Richbell, Graham Brown and skip Paul Kelly ran into trouble on their rink. After 11 ends they were 18 shots down, so it was amazing they managed to pull back 15 shots. They didn't win it but it made losing 26 – 17 more respectable.
Pete Nichols, Eddie Dilley, Jay Merrell and skip Phil Ellis set off at a good pace and held off their opponents, winning comfortably 18-10.
On the last rink, Mike Copping, Roger Murphy, Nick Channon and skip Mike Groves also played extremely well to win by ten shots, 28-18.
Paul Kelly and Phil Ellis's teams pulled out all the stops in the end game to take an all important nine shots between them which raised their score sufficiently for an overall Wellington win.
It was a good result for Wellington who were the victors on the day, winning overall by nine shots, 63 to Wyrall Park's 54.
