IN THE Over 60s Bowls League, Wellington Tigers came up against the Ottery Buzzards over two very close and exciting games.

On the first rink, Mike Connor, Eddie Dilley and skip Dave Beaudet found themselves in a difficult match. After 7 ends the two were level on 7 shots each.

By the 15th of 18 ends, Tigers were just in front 14 – 13 but the Buzzards skip played a brilliant shot, picking up the jack and trailing it back into the ditch. Six of his team's bowls were in that area so they picked up 6 valuable shots to take the lead, 19-14.

Tigers did their best and they managed to win the last two ends but they were just one shot short and the Buzzards won it 19-18.

Alan May, Roger Murphy and skip Tony Gibson needed to win by at least 2 shots. After 14 ends they were one shot ahead, 13 – 12. They then stepped up the pace to win 19-13.

The overall score at the end of the match was Wellington Tigers 37 to Ottery's Buzzards 32. It was a closely fought battle but the big cats were a bit too good for the big birds this time around.
