THE first match in Wellington Bowling Club’s Ladies Friday League was played last week between Oaks and Rowans.

The match started with both teams fairly level and, after four ends, the teams were tied on 2 shots each.

The Oaks, consisting of Debbie Lane, Monica Carter and skip Pauline Wadham, then started to pull away.

The Rowans’ team of Liz Copping, Michelle Newstead and skip Liz May picked up one shot but the Oaks were too strong for them and won the match 10-3.

In the second match of the evening Elms played Hazels. The Elms, Jane Hayes, Di Dagg and skip Pat Bridger took the first three ends to lead 5-0. The Hazels team of Kath Alford, Janet Moore and skip June Anderson then took three shots to draw nearer. Despite some good bowling from the Hazels team they couldn’t manage to catch up and Elms came out worthy winners by 11-4.

The Ladies Friday League plays on a Friday evening. Each Friday two matches of an hour and a half are played. The league is one of a number of indoor competitions which are taking place at Wellington Bowling Club during the winter months.
