WHILE Wellington Bowling Club's ladies were beating Taunton at home earlier in the week the club's mixed team bowled along to the seaside.
Graham Brown, Christine Willcocks and skip Paul Kelly came up against a strong Minehead foursome on their opponents' away green, but managed to hold things together early on. After seven ends the teams were level on 6 shots apiece but after that Minehead crept ahead and stayed just out of reach to win 23–20.
Eddie Dilley, Jay Merrell and skip Phil Ellis also ran into trouble early on and found themselves 10–6 down after ten ends. However, they were not going to be pushed around and came back hard to pinch it 14–12.
With one win each so far, it all depended on the result of the last rink.
Darren Sparks, Nick Channon and skip Mike Groves got down to some serious bowling early on and after thirteen ends they led by 17 shots to 5.
Minehead picked up the pace in the end game but it was too little too late and Wellington won comfortably 21–14.
The overall result was a 55–49 victory to the Wellington team and they came away with 10 points to their opponents' two.
