THE Weekend Triples League came alive at Wellington Bowling Club on Saturday with two competitive games and some unexpected results.
Sue Channon, Trevor Jenkins and skip Nick Channon's Woodpeckers were up against Phil Hutchings, Angie Moore and skip Jay Morrell's Southsiders.
It was very even to start off with and after four ends the teams were level on two shots apiece.
But from then on Jay Merrell's Southsiders moved up a gear and despite all their efforts, Woodpeckers found themselves chasing the game and the Southies were victorious at the end by a comfortable 13 shots to 4.
In the remaining game, Suzanne Worth, Paul Kelsall and skip Ron Elston's Allstars were bowling against Liz May, Ian Stewart and skip Dave Bridger's experienced Skylarks side.
Despite it being the first time the Allstars team had played together, they bowled very capably indeed.
Dave Bridger's Skylarks had to pull out all the stops to stay with them and with just one end to play the scores were level on 10 shots apiece.
The last end was very close but the new team of Allstars pinched it on the line to become happy winners by eleven shots to ten.
