THE Badgers were two places up from the bottom of the Afternoon Triples League at Wellington Bowling Club coming into their match.
They were not looking forward to the game because they were up against the Trailblazers who haven't lost a game so far and were sitting happily with 12 points after six games.
However, Pat Bridger, Brian Wombwell, Geoff Stamp and skip Ann Cowling were not frightened by their opponents' achievements and set out to show what they could do. Badgers won the first end and in the second collected a massive six shots.
Battle lines were drawn and Phil Wiggan, Keith Jennings, Marguerite Nichols and skip Angie Moore's Trailblazers picked up the pace, winning the next two ends.
But Badgers were not impressed and went on to win the match by 14 shots to Trailblazers' nine.
There was another surprising result on the same day. Liz May, Monica Carter, Arthur Carter and skip Alan May's middle of the table Blackbirds lost their game against David Hoskison, Reg Deam, Ron Elston and skip Ernie Windsor's bottom of the table Demons.
Demons were on fire and pinched a closely fought game by 13 shots to 11.
