WELLY Super 2s started the 23-24 rugby season in great form in Counties three Somerset South, winning their first two games before losing the next two and only being outclassed by Hornets, the division winners, writes Graeme Smith.

Welly put together a string of three wins, one draw a very narrow defeat and probably their most complete performance being the win away to Bridgwater before Christmas.

The young team played some fantastic rugby, combining a real team spirit and resolute defence. January was a great month for the Super 2s, winning three out of four games, placing them fourth in the league!

The weather then played havoc with fixtures, momentum was lost and with several players stepping up and playing for the 1st XV, the 2s only managed to fulfil three fixtures for the rest of the season.

Notwithstanding this, the team has produced some stunning performances and it's exciting to see Colts step up this side of Christmas. Under the excellent captaincy of Andrew (Ange) Bellamy and the safe hands of Eric the Phyiso, no doubt the Super 2s will build on their solid performance next season, Onwards and Upwards!
