THE top four sides in the first division of the West Somerset Cricket League all won their games in the latest round of games with Ashbrittle remaining leaders and firm favourites to win the championship.
The Ashes, who are 76 points clear of second-placed Kilve, won by eight wickets in their away match against Morebath who, batting first, scored 214-7 in their 40 overs.
Carl Hooper steered Morebath to a respectable total with an unbeaten 79, while Miguel Tenreiro scored 29, Ed Mock 27 and Chris Gale 24. Luke Williams finished with figures of 4-41.
Ashes knocked off the runs in just over 30 overs with Sam Shaikh scoring 82 not out, Andy Hill 66 not out and Wilfred Embleton 34.
Kilve kept iin touch with an emphatic nine-wicket away victory over Brompton Ralph who were bowled out for 63 in 18.1 overs with T Smith taking 5-25, J Taylor 2-28 and J Darrell 2-4. C Taylor was 37 not out for Kilve.
Bagborough, now 24 points behind Kilve with a game in hand, were 108-run home winners over Bridgetown. Bagborough scored 279 all out with J Glanvill scoring 68, C Swimbuurne 53 and H Stirzaker 55.
Bridgetown never seriously looked like getting the runs and finished well short of their target at 171-7 with C Wookey 56 not out.
Over Stowey kept in fourth spot after beating Stoke St Mary at home by six wickets. Stoke were dismissed for 127 in 32-4 overs with Richard Hingston top scoring with 30 while Joseph Harding hit 21. Indika Wearawarna took 5-27 and Stephen Miller 2-19. Wearawarna was unbeaten on 44 for Stowey while Hayden Langlois made 31.
East Huntspill proved too strong for bottom side Churchinford, winning at home by 116 runs. Huntspill, put into bat, scored 237-9 with Patrick Chisholm hitting 57 and Andrew Chedzoy 75. Chris Roberts snapped up 5-25.
Jack Perry (55) and Lee Nessling (22) were the only batters to score runs against the Huntspill bowling attack with Adam Lee taking 4-24 and Chisholm 3-23.
Watchet still lead Division Two despite losing by 121 runs away to Crowcombe. Batting first, Crowcombe knocked 239-5 in their 40 overs with J Newman tops with 85, while G Robertson scored 32 and H Warne 39 not out.
Only three of Watchet’s batters - Mark Lovell (21), C Jeromson (25) and E Jeromson (28 not out) - managed double figures as the seasiders were bowled out for 118.
Winsford closed the gap on the leaders after beating Carhampton in an exciting game by one wicket. Winsford scored 242-9 with Ryan Dean (68), Lawrence Priest (48) and Peter Govier (33) being their main run-getters. Luke Milton scored 63 as Carhampton came up just short of their target.
