On a wet and blustery Wednesday evening at the playing field the reserves had to settle for a share of the points in a competitive encounter.
Score:
Wellington Reserves 1
Newton St Cyres 1
A long goal kick launched down the slope by the Newton St Cyres very capable keeper, eluded the Tangerines’ central defence for their pacy forward to gamble and get in behind with a one-on-one with keeper Tom Hyam who could do nothing to stop the excellent finish.
The response came on 23 minutes, from a direct free kick that was taken by striker Luke Perry from 20 yards to the left of the gaol, which Luke lifted over the wall and placed inside the near post past Newtons stranded keeper.
A change of formation to maximise the flanks could not yield the desired effect.
Half time came and went with the teams searching for the all-important winner, however with the playing surface a major factor as the deteriorating surface turned to mud with tackles and defences the winners on the night.
The result however stretches the Tangerines unbeaten run to 12 games and keeps them in 3rd position in the league at this moment in time.
