WIVELISCOMBE Rugby Club's 152nd season has been a satisfactory eight months with teams from the senior to the Junior sections enjoying a good amount of success, writes Roger Bellamy.

Wiveliscombe 1st XV have found a league where they can compete in both home and away games against good quality opponents in a competitive league across the South West Counties. Finishing in sixth position in a twelve team division, Wiveliscombe scored a total of 537 points and conceded 439. Twenty-two league games were played with 12 victories and ten defeats.

Coach Mark Chatterton will be working hard to gain a promotion place next season, making it clear the team are capable of achieving this with the right attitude.

The club's 2nd XV has had an excellent season, gaining promotion to the Counties 3 Tribute Somerset South league next season. They lost only one game in the 24-25 season, finishing in top position. They played 18 games in the league, losing only the one fixture away to eventual runners up Martock. Wiveliscombe scored 847 points and conceded 118.

The team’s coach Jamie Cook has confirmed the young side can look forward to a bright future if they continue to show similar conviction next season.

Women's rugby at Wiveliscombe has proved increasingly popular with the team competing well against sides from Cullompton, Sidmouth, Wellington, Trowbridge and Chard. Wiveliscombe finished top of their division and have been promoted to NC2 EW3.

The standard of rugby played at this level is Impressive and the work put in by both players and coaches should be commended.

Junior rugby is in a healthy position at Wiveliscombe with teams beginning their rugby careers from the age of 11, leading up to Colts rugby at under 18. Colts coaches Mark Barrington and Dan Stanbury have been working hard with the youngsters who are showing good promise for the 25-26 season. Hopefully, these players will secure a solid base in the club for seasons to come.

Wiveliscombe have a PAPA Johns Cup fixture to play on the 26th April against the winners of a game between Kingsbridge and Plymstock, This will an away game.

Wiveliscombe's end of season Dinner/Dance and Awards night will be held on Friday, May 2nd, at the club bringing an end to the season. The club would like to thank all officials,volunteers and supporters for their help in keeping Wivey Rugby Club at the great social hub of the town.
