SOMERSET residents can now book vaccinations against Covid-19, flu and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) as the NHS looks to provide additional protection for those most at risk this winter.
Those eligible can now book their appointments through the NHS app, calling 119 or by visiting the NHS website, with vaccinations starting from Thursday, October 3.
Invites will be sent out by the NHS to all those eligible, while GPs and other local NHS services will also contact people.
Shona Turnbull-Kirk, associate director for health equity programmes and resilience at NHS Somerset, said: “As we head into the colder months, Covid-19, flu and RSV can be dangerous for those at higher risk of severe illness.
“With winter approaching, it’s important to protect yourself and your loved ones by getting your vaccinations.
“I would encourage everyone eligible to book their vaccines as soon as possible.”
The Covid-19 vaccination is recommended to all adults over 65, residents of care homes and those under 65 with underlying health conditions, including pregnant women.
Flu shots for children started at the beginning of the school year, and for pregnant women since September 1, but are now available for all that are eligible.
The RSV vaccine is being offered for the first time, with the disease being a common cause of coughs and colds, and can be dangerous for older people and young children. The vaccine is being offered for 75-79 year olds, and pregnant women from 28 weeks to protect their child.
