TWO friends have presented a £1,000 cheque to Love Musgrove, which supports the breast cancer care centre in Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

Wendy Parsons, from Taunton, and Mandy Parsons, of Wellington, raised the funds by holding a coffee morning in Bulford Hall, Wellington, which included a cake table and tombola, and offered an opportunity for people to share their stories of those who had been lost to, or saved from, cancer.

A table top sale had earlier also been organised by Wendy in Bridgwater and Taunton College, Taunton, where she is a student, and raised £130 by selling second hand educational books and five cot blankets crocheted by Mandy.

The money also went to the breast cancer centre in Musgrove while Mandy further donated seven more crocheted cot blankets to the special care baby unit in the hospital.

Added to £600 raised by Mandy’s 60th birthday celebrations in March, it took the pair’s total fund-raising for the cancer charity to £1,730.

Wendy, who has recovered from breast cancer two years ago, thanked the college, The Weir cafe/retreat in French Weir Park, Taunton, and everybody else who had supported the pair’s fund-raising efforts, and she paid tribute to the work of Musgrove Park’s cancer care centre.

The £1,000 cheque was received on behalf of the charity by Max Patch, who was then personally presented with a chocolate medal.

Next month, Mandy and Wendy will also be taking part in a sponsored gym/swim to raise more money for Love Musgrove.
