DOZENS of foodies turned out in force for Wellington’s ninth annual eat:Festival on Saturday, September 7.

Organisers, eat:Festivals, work across the West Country to bring together the “best food and drinks producers and artisans”.

The local eat:Wellington event was its 15th festival of the year and took place on South Street and High Street.

Bev Milner-Simonds, from eat:Festivals, said: "Thank you to all who attended, traded at and supported the ninth eat:Wellington last weekend.

“With a mixed weather forecast visitors were certainly out early, and we enjoyed seeing some familiar faces and some new visitors from further afield, too. We had a good range of producers and makers, and it was great to see some favourites experimenting with new menus and a warm reception to new businesses like Landwich and Loluli's.

“We were pleased to give space to Rivertones and their acapella performances were a real hit.

“We visited quite a few local businesses, and one told us that they took our entire month's rent in one day and had a queue out of the door at one point.

“A sincere thank you to Wellington Town Council for their support of eat:Wellington. The Town Council's support ensures the viability of this festival."

Mayor of Wellington councillor Janet Lloyd said she was “delighted” to see the town so busy when the event was on.

She said: “When I went into town there were people queuing at the large variety of food stalls and the car parks were full.

“An event such as this brings people into town and hopefully they also took advantage of visiting our wide range of independent shops and businesses whilst they were here.”
