Revellers have complained of a ‘bitter taste’ left in their mouths after the Iron Duke’s January sale was chased down by a February price hike.

The Wellington Weekly was alerted to the higher prices when one avid Iron Duke goer told the newspaper that the price of their breakfast muffin had shot up by around five per cent. Others reported more expensive coffees, beers and ciders.

The move is part of a Wetherspoons-wide price increase, which has inflated the price of food and drink across the chain’s more than 900 pubs.

It left a number of products more expensive than they were before the January sale began. Wetherspoons boss Tim Martin blamed higher costs for the move. Commenting he said:

“Wetherspoons, like most pub companies, has seen some big increases in costs. We believe that our prices remain competitive, even after these changes.”

A spokesperson for Wetherspoons said most prices had increased by 3.95 per cent from February 1, though a number of products such as Bud Light lager had only increased by 2 per cent and that Draught Pepsi remained unchanged.
