A SHORTAGE of nominations has forced Wellington Town Council to postpone its annual community awards presentations.
The council had intended to present the awards at the annual parish meeting on May 29.
But the panel of councillors judging the nominations decided there were not enough entries to do it justice.
Now, they have extended the deadline for nominations until May 31, after the annual gathering of parishioners.
The awards were launched last year with four categories - civic, youth, business, and community.
They recognise people in each category who have worked during the year for the benefit of the Wellington community.
Winners in 2023 were Dave Burge in the civic category, Dulcie Harding for the youth award, Wellington Majorettes in the community section, and Ellisons School of Motoring for business.
A council spokesperson said: “All of the winners have worked to better our community and are great representations of what we hold dear in Wellington, kindness and generosity.”
Nomination are made by the public via an online form available through the council’s website and winners are chosen by a panel of town councillors.
Wellington’s new mayor, Cllr Janet Lloyd, said: “I know there are so many wonderful people out there who go above and beyond to help better our community in many different ways.
“While the entries we have received so far are all worthy nominations we felt they did not cover the full breadth of people’s activities and so decided to allow a few extra weeks to encourage more.”
