A YOUNG skipper from Wellington School will be attempting to sail an electric boat around Britain in summer 2024.
The Round Britain eRIB challenge is a not-for-profit event supporting the marine industry’s transition to electric propulsion.
Harry, 18, will be setting off from Lyme Regis, in Dorset, and the team will be stopping at more than 40 locations around the UK.
A significant part of the Round Britain eRIB project is to build an understanding over the need to replace fossil fuels with zero emissions propulsion.
Round Britain eRIB have collaborated with Jordan Wiley from Expedition Stem to create some free Key Stage 2 Educational Materials for use in schools.
"The Expedition Stem Round Britain eRIB resource is designed to inspire KS2 children through the spirit of adventure. It follows Harry as he prepares for his challenge, and provides differentiated, curriculum-linked STEM activities for each stage of his journey," Jordan Wylie MBE, Founder Expedition Stem.
The challenge team has been working on this project in their spare time for over two years and are looking forward to public support at one of the stop locations.
A short competition is being run by the team who are asking for suggestions to name the vessel before it embarks on its journe. Submit your suggestion to [email protected].
This will highlight the opportunities for the use of electric propulsion systems in UK Coastal waters and is supported by several key industry bodies.
