WELLINGTON resident, Tracey Kaya, will be exhibiting and selling her artwork for a limited time in the town’s pop-up shop.
Ms Kaya’s artwork is ‘colourful and vibrant’ and aims to capture the culture and essence of the various countries that have inspired her.
Ms Kaya, using the name Trasi and Trasi's art to showcase her work, began painting as a young student, back when her artwork depicted scenes of home.
Now, however, Ms Kaya’s artwork reflects her own development and cultural understanding, using canonical features from Chinese, Italian, and Turkish cultures for inspiration.
Throughout her life, Ms Kaya has lived in all three countries and worked as a teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL), which further exposed her to different cultures.
Fabrics from the local Fox Brothers mill are often featured in her artwork, which she said ‘brings [her] story to Wellington’, where she has raised her family and now lives.
Ms Kaya said: “I am grateful to Alice Kendall and the Wellington Town Council for the opportunity to exhibit my paintings and hand-sewn artefacts which represent my development as an artist.
“There will be a range of paintings and hand-sewn pieces available to buy. I look forward to sharing my work and story with the town and adding my own splash of colour to Wellington’s Fore Street during the Christmas festivities.”
