Members of a local support group have so far raised more than £300 to support vulnerable mothers.
The Wellington Infant Feeding Support Group is working to help mothers and their families who are struggling to meet the financial challenges of having a newborn baby.
The money will be used to offer free services from Doula - which could help mothers in emergency accommodation, teenage mums, those fleeing domestic abuse and others.
Jen Bolton, who runs the support group, said: "I started running the Wellington Infant Feeding Group to fill a gap in local newborn & feeding care provision. Over that time it has become clear that so many local families need support & the money raised will make a huge difference to the early weeks of their parenting journey.”
Lorna Rich, the member of the Infant Feeding Support Group who organised the fundraiser said: “Looking after a newborn baby is challenging at any time, but doing it on your own and without a support network must feel impossible. Jen’s care and advice has meant the world to me since having my 7 month old, and I’m glad to be able gift some of Jen’s time forward so she can help others”.
The free Doula services are said to have already helped local mothers - one commented that the support 'really makes a difference.'
