WELLINGTON Foodbank will be turning 10 years old in June and organisers will mark the occasion with a ‘get-together’.
The charity, which is a distribution centre of the Trussell Trust’s Taunton Foodbank, is based in the United Reformed Church, in Fore Street.
The foodbank opened in June, 2013, and has seen demand rise exponentially over the decade it has been open.
It provides emergency food parcels for people in need in and around Wellington and is open on Mondays and Thursdays from 1 pm to 3 pm.
Emergency food parcels provide a minimum of three days of tinned and dried food which have been donated by the local community.
Organiser Christine Silverlight said nearly everybody who had visited the foodbank recently was having difficulty paying bills due to the ongoing cost of living crisis.
More people are using foodbanks than ever before, with more than 100,000 emergency food parcels being delivered across the Westcountry between April and September last year.
