Firefighters from Wellington rescued a person trapped in a car after a collision on Thursday.

The callout to the incident on Bagley Road was the first for a new engine based at the town's fire station.

The crew used cutting gear from the pump to free the occupant from the car.

They were taken to hospital in Taunton for treatment to what were believed to be minor injuries to their neck and back.

A spokesperson for Wellington Fire Station said: "Using the upgraded equipment and cutting gear was extremely useful resolving this incident.

"One casualty complaining of neck and back pain was extricated by removing both offside doors and the B post. The casualty was then left in the care of the ambulance."

Police said the road off the A38 was closed while emergency services dealt with the two-vehicle collision on Thursday morning. The casualty was later allowed home from the hospital.
