Wellington fire fighters have been hailed as heroes after rescuing an elderly woman who collapsed and became trapped in her flat.
At around 9.20 am on Tuesday, September 5, fire control received a report of a woman suffering a medical episode who had collapsed and was stuck behind the door of her flat.
A fire crew was deployed to an address in Bishops Court, where they removed the front door of the property to gain access before administering first aid to the elderly resident.
Paramedics then arrived on the scene and conveyed the woman to Musgrove Park Hospital.
One resident took to social media to thank the fire brigade for their 'heroic' efforts. They said: "I just wanted to give a very grateful shout out to the Wellington fire fighters who came to Bishops Court to respond to a non-fire emergency.
"They gained access to an elderly lady with a medical emergency who was trapped. Thank you boys so much. You were our heroes today."
Wellington Fire Station proudly shared the message of thanks on Facebook, saying it was their privilege to serve the community. They said: It is a privilege to be a part of the team at Wellington.
To respond and carry out our role to help those in need in any situation gives us all a great sense of pride. When we get feedback like this it really hammers home what it means to the community we serve. Thank you."
