USERS of Wellington Community Centre are being warned items they may have left behind in recent years are likely soon to be disposed of, unless they step forward to claim them back.

The centre has a ‘lost property’ basket in the kitchen which has gradually become filled with left-overs from various groups which have booked its hall or smaller meeting room.

Items left behind in the past few months have ranged from a helium balloon filler to a box of brass tacks and a spatula.

Decorations from last Christmas, an umbrella, a set of LED lights, and some bottle bags are also helping to fill the basket.

Management committee chairman Dave Mitton said: “We are storing away the items for the time being and the committee needs to think about what to do with them.

“The community centre is proving increasingly popular for hiring now we have recovered from the Covid pandemic, so we cannot always work out who may have left what behind.

“We would welcome anybody who has visited the centre in recent times to get in touch and let us know if they think they have lost something here, so we can hopefully reunite people with their belongings.”

The community centre, which has frozen its hiring fees for the past 10 years, was saved from potential closure last year when several new members joined the committee to keep it going.

Anybody who wants to claim back items of lost property should do so by emailing to [email protected].
