THE Mayor of Wellington has described the town carnival as a “great success” with thousands of people lining the streets to watch the spectacle.

Councillor Janet Lloyd has paid thanks to organisers for putting on a “fantastic” event.

She said: “What a really wonderful day with so many activities taking place in our town prior to the start of this year’s carnival.”

Events took place across Wellington on Saturday, September 28, as part of the town’s annual carnival celebrations.

She added: “The carnival was a great success with thousands of people lining the route to see all the fantastic entries. My thanks go to all of those involved in putting on the show on the night and for all their hard work during the year to make the Carnival such a great event.

“Personally, I was privileged to meet our guests from Torres Vedras who were dressed as bees and seemed to have a really enjoyable evening including winning a class.”
