NYNEHEAD Jubilee Playing Field has re-opened after being closed for six months for it to be totally refurbished.
Bristol company Touchwood installed new play equipment over the winter and recently village children and adults crafted and installed the finishing touches to the structure, and celebrated the re-opening of the field.
Guided by Touchwood’s artisan craftsmen, villagers crafted wooden hand holds for a set of monkey bars and a climbing ladder.
The whole community enjoyed the chance to get involved and the play equipment was well used all day long. The new play structure was officially opened when Ellie Smith, five, chosen to represent the village’s children, cut a ribbon.
A spokesperson said: “Thank you to the Ling family for using their tractor to lift the completed monkey bars into position. The playing field committee are also grateful to Ben Ilo, who used his woodwork skills to transform the aged slide’s structure into a den, and to Wadham Fencing for donating the wood to make it possible.
“Thanks also go to Mark Butterfield for providing his time and digger equipment to complete the final stage of repurposing the slide.”
To fund the new equipment, the playing field committee matched the playing field’s capital with money from the National Lottery, Tesco Bags of Help, Taunton Deane Borough Council and Waitrose.
The committee is extremely grateful to these organisations and everyone involved in this community venture.
