THE M5 in Somerset was closed today following a two-vehicle crash which prompted the response of the air ambulance.

The incident happened at around 11am today (July 22) on the southbound carriageway between junction 24 (Bridgwater) and junction 25 (Taunton).

One person was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The Somerset and Dorset Air Ambulance attended and landed at the scene, which resulted in traffic being held in both directions.

Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement: "We were called 11am today (Monday 22 July) to the M5 southbound between junction 24 (Bridgwater) and junction 25 (Taunton) following reports of a two-vehicle collision.

"One person has been taken to hospital, their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life changing.

"The motorway was initially closed in both directions while emergency services attend the scene. Both carriageways have now been reopened.

"If anyone has any information, or witnessed the collision, please call 101 and quote log 380 of today (Monday)."
