A SECOND town centre sudden death in a fortnight has rocked the Wellington community.

A large-scale emergency services incident unfolded in Mantle Street on Tuesday evening (August 22) after a ‘concern for welfare’ alarm.

South Western Ambulance Services NHS Trust sent two land ambulances and a paramedic car under blue lights to the scene and police were also called.

Police had to force the front door to gain entry to the property, which provides accommodation in the form of several bedsits for single people.

A young man was found dead inside.

His death was not considered ‘suspicious’ and police were tracing next of kin to inform them of the tragedy.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Police were called to a concern for welfare incident in Mantle Street, Wellington.

“Sadly, after officers forced entry to a property, they found the body of a man.

“He has not yet been formally identified.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious but officers continue to make inquiries for a report to the coroner.”

Two weeks ago to the day, there was a major emergency services presence in Cornhill, Wellington, when a 36-year-old woman was found dead.
