WELLINGTON residents are praising the local road sweeper for “going over and above what is expected.”
Wellington resident Yvonne (Yve) Bell posted on Facebook to publicly thank Dave Burge, the Wellington road sweeper employed by ID Verde, for cleaning up the weeds along Bulford Road.
Yve Bell, who owns Manny’s, said: “Dave comes down (the street to Manny’s) and he cleans the pigeon poo which no one else would do if he didn’t.”
“I just thought Bulford Road looked so nice and I just felt like I had to thank him really.”
Maxine Price, from the Nook and Cranny, said: “He’s always done a really good job, and he was poorly for a few weeks, so it was nice to see him back.
“He was a great help when we had the Wellington Independent Market. Good old Dave went around and picked up all the bags and left it all tidy.
“I’ve known Dave for the past 10 years and he’s always done his upmost. He’s a credit to the town.”
A road sweeper for 17 years, Dave has lived in Wellington for nearly 40 years.
He said: “The praise keeps me going, I love what I do because I’ve been gardening for a long time.
“My parents and my grandparents taught me a lot about gardening – what to do, what not to do.
“I had a lot of praise doing something else recently. I do work all over Wellington and yes, I love being thanked.”
