A ‘TINY’ hedgehog was rescued by a village resident after a flurry of snow brought wintry conditions to Somerset at the end of last month.
Angela Boyd, from Westford, near Rockwell Green, found the baby hedgehog - or hoglet - on her patio at around 4am on Thursday, November 21.
She discovered the hoglet being probed by her nine year-old dog Hector. Coincidently, she’d found an adult hedgehog the night before and delivered it to a neighbour who has a specialised shelter for the animals.
The autumn litter hoglet was kept warm and dry with a hot water bottle until later that morning when Angela took it to the RSPCA Wildlife Centre, in West Hatch, via the Blackdown Hill’s through the fresh snowfall.
Now safe and secure, the hedgehog will remain at the West Hatch centre, along with other injured, sick and orphaned wild animals, for care and rehabilitation during the winter until its anticipated release early in the new year.
