TIM Potter Family Butchers is celebrating more success from the Taste of the West Awards - taking home two new gongs for their quality meat.

Founded in the early 90s, the family butchers in Fore Street, Wellington, has secured the highly-prestigious Champion Sausage award, for their traditional pork sausages, and the Champion Bacon accolade, for their Black Treacle Cured Back Bacon.

The butchery has also made it the finals of Best South West Butcher Shop once again.

Son of founder Tim, Chris Potter, remarked on the business’s successful evening, saying: “Luckily enough we managed to win both awards, which is something that has really alluded me.

“I’ve been in the final several times now for best sausage and once with bacon and never actually won before. Now I have and I’m really excited about it because it’s something I’ve always wanted.”

Taste of the West is an awards programme that has been promoting and supporting the South West food and drink industry for more than 30 years and has grown to become one of the most prestigious food and drink awards in the region.

Each year the awards programme works with approximately 350 food and drink producers from seven counties across the West of England, of which Tim Potter Butchers was one.

The awards ceremony took place at Westpoint in Exeter on Tuesday evening (November 12) and the family are quite-rightly delighted with their haul.

The judges at the Taste of the West Awards said: "A cracking sizzling example of a classic sausage full of flavour and a fabulous texture.

"The bacon was a hearty slice of goodness. Smokey, sweet and well balanced. Just fabulous."

Chris added: “I’d like to thank taste of the West for selecting us for these awards because we really do work so hard in here.

“As for our customers, I’d like to say thank you for your support because without you coming in, I wouldn’t have the chance to make these products to start with.

“The customers are a big part of why I do it. I do it for the town really, because I’ve grown up here, I just want to give something back.”
