TWO men remained in police custody on Monday (September 9) after a Wellington man allegedly suffered multiple stab wounds in a late-night attack over the weekend.
The victim was attacked in what neighbours believed to be a ‘drugs-related’ incident at about 11 pm on Saturday night (September 7).
The attack happened in Churchfields, close to Wellington’s St John’s Parish Church.
One nearby resident said: “They tried to get into his flat and that is when he was stabbed.
“We do not think he has died, but we do not know what his condition is.”
An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesperson said the victim’s injuries were not thought to be life-threatening and he remained in Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, in a ‘stable’ condition.
The spokesperson said three people had been arrested after the incident, with one later being released on police bail.
Police were called by an ambulance crew who initially responded to the emergency and took the injured man to hospital.
The spokesperson said: “We are treating this as an isolated incident and the victim and suspects are thought to be known to one another.
“We believe there is no risk to the wider community, however our neighbourhood policing team are carrying out high-visibility reassurance patrols.
“We encourage any members of the public who have concerns to get in touch.”
Part of Churchfields was cordoned off by police throughout Sunday as scenes of crime detectives and forensics officers carried out investigations in the victim’s flat.
The cordon was lifted late on Sunday evening.
