The High Street will get a boost when the closed down Mary Jenkins Farm Shop reopens as the new premises for local artisan outlet The Nook and Cranny.

The grocers, which was the last remaining in Wellington, closed suddenly in April, and the building has remained vacant since.

But now the shop is set to get a new lease of life when mother and daughter business partners Maxine Price and Charlotte Beatty take it over in October.

Maxine and Charlotte own the Nook and Cranny, a business currently based in a North Street shop which hosts goods and wares from local artisans and crafters.

The Nook and Cranny opened just over three years ago, and has enjoyed so much success the business is now ready to expand into a larger premises. Their new High Street store will host 32 local traders, and could eventually host pop-up restaurant nights and other events.

Speaking about the business Charlotte said: "We rent out shelf space for small business and we have lots of new traders joining is, there will be 32 in total. All are traders are from within Somerset and mostly from within Wellington.

“We opened during the first lockdown and we thought we would see how it goes and three years later we are going strong. We had the opportunity to open the bigger shop so we thought we would give it a bash."

The shop will sell a variety of locally made goods, including pottery, jewellery, honey, glass, chocolate and more. More goods will be joining the selection in October, including Iain Dickie's award winning pies.

Charlotte encouraged residents to visit the new shop when it opens on October 2, saying: "Come along and support us because we can’t stay open if people don’t support us. We really want the High Street to stay alive so it is really important."
