Mother and daughter business duo Maxine Peak and Charlotte Beatty have welcomed the backing of the community after opening at a new town centre location.

The Nook and Cranny, which stocks an eclectic range of wares made by local producers, opened up on the High Street on Monday, October 2, after migrating from its old home on North Street.

The High Street shop had been left empty since Mary Jenkins Farm Shop closed without warning in April this year.

But on Monday the shop was again stocked with wares, with customers eyeing up the many goods on offer at the new-look Nook and Cranny.

Wellington's mayor Marcus Barr opened the store first thing in a ribbon cutting ceremony. Charlotte welcomed the support of the community, some of whom were vying to be among the shop's first 50 customers, and walk away with a free brownie. Charlotte said:

"It has been good, Marcus came first thing and cut our ribbon at nine, we have been so well supported.

"There have been some hiccups but we have got through it - it's been really nice."

The Nook and Cranny stocks goods from 50 local vendors, mostly from Wellington, with others from further afield in Somerset. Charlotte said The Nook and Cranny "has something for everybody."

The store will be open from nine to five, Monday to Saturday - Charlotte encouraged residents to drop in and lend their support to the new High Street shop.
