THE Blue Pantry in Wellington has announced when it will close its doors for good.
Husband and wife team, Gary and Katie Todd, broke the news of the closure on social media. In a statement they said: “We have had ups and downs aplenty, but through it all we have had amazing, loyal customers who have supported us throughout.
“It is with sadness therefore, that we are sharing the news we will not be renewing our lease for a further period and The Blue Pantry will be closing its doors in the coming weeks.”
The Wellington Weekly has now been told the eco-friendly store will close permanently on March 30.
Mr Todd, who previously worked at The Wellesley Hospital before opening the business, said he was returning to the care industry to operate as a micro provider for Somerset Council.
Mr Todd said customers who had bought refillable SESI cleaning products alone, had saved ‘an amazing’ 30,735 single use packages.
News of the store closure - which came hot on the heels of an announcement by Fore Street’s Talent Gallery that they would close soon too - was met with sadness on social media.
One resident commented: “So sad to see this amazing shop go.”
Another said: “What a shame. Rents are squeezing local artisan shops off our High Street.”
One resident said Wellington was in danger of becoming a ‘ghost town’, commenting: “Another one bits the dust. What are the council doing to stop this exodus? Otherwise Wellington will become a ghost town.”
