DURING the second lockdown, Odette’s Tearoom in High Street, Wellington, has been planning what it can do to make Christmas a little more special than usual following a grim year.
All these plans are reliant on the relaxation of lockdown rules for the Christmas period.
Owner of Odette’s and town councillor Nancy Powell-Brace said: “We are asking the residents of Wellington to nominate someone to receive a free Christmas lunch at the tearoom. The scheme is designed for those who live alone and are not able to spend Christmas Day with their families due to travel restrictions and/or tier crossings.
“The limit is on 20 people and we shall be asking for nominations and explanations. These people will then be invited to come to the Covid-secure tearoom for a three-course Christmas lunch.
“There will be no charge for this lunch but there will be an honesty box by the door for people to contribute if they wish – but there will be absolutely no expectation.
“It has been a tough year for all of us but some more than others. This way we hope to bring companionship and cheer to those most in need. If you can think of someone you know who might be interested/benefit from a more sociable Christmas than they might be expecting, please do get in touch through the tearoom’s Facebook page or by dropping a note through the tearoom door.
This offer is only open to residents of Wellington who are living alone and cannot be with families, or do not have a family to be with, at Christmas. Travel arrangements can be made where necessary.
